But theb truth is that we are currently living in a Revolution right now Today. Probably one of the greatest revolutions in human history is happening all around us right now. Most often than not, hen we hear the word ‘revolution’, it brings to mind, revolt, Rebellion and the trashing of the Status Quo for something better. Bolshevik revolutions and ‘Power to the People’ spring to mind. The Burning of statues and palaces and the downfall of systems and Governments. We may even use the phrase ‘Come the Revolution’ in a light hearted reference to a time in the near future where things will be put right.
This kind of Revolution that we have become familiar with is usually brought about by force. But the revolution we live in today is a technological revolution driven by opportunity. The world is changing and with it, so too is the definition of World leaders and Powers.
What is a Revolution?
Okay then. So before we get into the hows and whys, let us First establish what we mean by the word “Revolution”. According to the Cambridge English Dictionary, the word revolution can mean;
- a change in the way a country is governed, usually to a different political system and often using violence or war
- a very important change in the way that people do things
- A circular Movement
This ‘Circular Movement’ may also be apllied in the figurative sense where methods or systems may change in more progressive ways and notb just by force. As the Cambridge Business Dictionary defines Revolution as “a big change or improvement in the way that something works or looks, or in the way that people do a particular activity”
A Great Leap for Humankind
Thirty years ago, the greatest Invention of the 20th Century was launched. Using existing Telecommunication lines, a Network was established between computers in homes and offices worldwide. This network allowed these computers to communicate with each othe, thus creating a dialogue that existed within these communication lines. This Network would come to be known as the “Worldwide Web” or “The Internet”.
Now, it has to be said that this New technological Wonder was a rather slow affair to begin with and could take hours just to send a simple email. During the time it’d take to send this, you’d be unable to use your telephone as theyd be engaged whilst the data transfer was passing through them. I remember trying for hours to call someone and would be unable to get through for hours because they were downloading something, or even just browsing the Web. A web which was of course far more basic and rustic than today.
However, if we scroll on 30 years, we couldn’t be without it. Today, the vast majority of us would be stuck without Internet. Our work, Contacts, Banking, Shopping and pretty much, our entire lives fit on a tiny device that fits in our pocket. We have come to rely on this new and revolutionary communication vestibule that we have either forgotten or have never learned how to function without it. The world has become a faster place to live in. This power of faster communication has given birth to so many more scientific breakthroughs and inventions.
Breaking Down Barriers
Growing up as a child in the United Kingdom, if you’d asked me what I knew of Americans, I’d have probably thought about the very Few representatives I’d seen on Television. Politicians in Washington, Showbiz, Drugs and Crime in Newyork and then Hippies, Palm Trees and Sunshine in California. That was about it. Maybe some Gangsters in Chicago and Cowboys with Oil in Texas. But that was pretty much what I knew of American people back then.
Dont get me wrong, I wasn’t under any illusion that everyone in the States was like the few you saw on TV. I knew there were plenty of other people like ourselves. But we weren’t getting to see or speak to them. Now we are. Now we can. Why? Because the the Internet has given us the ability to connect with each other as Individuals wherever on the planet we may be.
The Empires Shift
What do you think of when you hear the word ‘Empire’? What about ‘World Leaders’? These things have always been traditionally understood as geographic powers and it’s leaders. Britain, America, Russia, China, etc. These are the kind of Empires we have always been used to. Presidents, Prime Ministers , Kings and Queens , Fuhrers and Generalissimos. These have always been the sorta figures we think of when we think of ‘World Leaders’.
But things are changing rapidly and these Empires are shifting. Over the past couple of decades we have witnessed the rise of a new type of leader. From the ashes of the old rose the new and Individuals from nowhere became Super Powers. A new Era indeed. No longer was Power confined to the Old School, but here we had equal opportunities for all. A system of operation that depended entirely on One’s skills and paid no regard to Class, Status or Race.
The Fall of the Mighty
Once upon a time, Governments and Monarchies were the ‘Be all and End All’ when it came to Power. They signified the Supreme Authority and was very much a case of “What they say, goes”. Yet today, even these so called leaders are forced to accept that ‘If they Ask Nicely, then we just might”. For all their power and Glory, they have 10 year old children running rings around them.
The Truth is, when it comes to the Worldwide Web, the Governments of Nation states would love nothing more than to Rules the Web. But the hard Fact is that they cant. Of course no power of that sort likes to admit defeat and will try to portray a scenario where they are ‘Allowing’ things to happen online. But the truth of the matter in most cases is that just just aren’t able to control the Internet.
Over the past couple of decades, we have seen these Governments and ‘Leaders’ Stamp their feet and demand. Or throwing empty threats to the wind. In some cases we have evn seen them pull some unsavoury stunts in a bid to get their own way. Like threatening trade Embargo’s on other Countries should they decline to help them win their little battle for control.
Yet, despite all that, the only thing we have seen this amount to is these so called Superpowers making a jackass of themselves. Bawling and screaming demands and taking tantrums like petulant children. ‘Stop and Do as I say!” they demand as the world looks on amused whilst carrying on completely unfazed.
The Rise of the Bedroom Mogul
History shows us that whenever One power crumbles, a new, fresh power emerges. From the Ashes of the Old comes something new. This has been exactly the case when it comes to this technological revolution that were in the middle of. Look at Charachters like Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and the like.
These guys were pretty much ‘Nobody’s’ as far as ‘ in the ‘Old Money’ world. Guys who were , as their parents may have called it ‘Playing around on their computer i n their bedroom’. Yet now they are kicking it and have prime seating around the Table of World affairs.
Zuckerberg
These new big names who have more or less rose up from nowhere have become the new world leaders. Look at Zuckerberg for instance. He built a little interactive website from his bedroom called ‘Facebook’ that let people connect with old friends and family whilst sharing photos and videos etc.
Now his company Meta are the worlds largest communication companies with their own satellite. This means that even if any of the traditional so called ‘World Leaders’ like Trump, Putin ,etc decide to ban them, they can defy them. Unless they physically blow that satellite outta space, they have no leverage on what META does or doesn’t do.
Bezos
What about Jeff Bezos? Another bedroom entrepreneur who built a little automated online marketplace website that let people buy & sell books. Now, he’s a major ‘Mover & Shaker’ in world economics. By growing his marketplace into a major platform for almost all fields of High street retail whilst keeping a close eye on the sales demographics, he was able to grow his site into one of the worlds biggest and most trusted bonafide marketplaces online.
He also had the savvy to use the rise of Crypto currency and the Bitcoin to gain a firm footing in the cockpit of Global Finance. Firstly by Investing for years in the currency. Then accepting it on his marketplace, gave him a hold on the majority of the stock and thus the control.
The Switchover
In Early 2019, for better or worse, 219 Nations around the globe placed their country on lockdown. This was a move that was made in response to the Imminent threat of infection with the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. Up until that point, the vast majority of the population had never even used a computer before, let alone navigated the worldwide web. Since then, over 80% of the worlds population use the Internet on a daily basis. Many companies now have employees working at home doing the job they’d have formerly done in an office.
At home, the only way most people could do their shopping during the lockdown was by ordering online. So, those who didnt have a clue how to work a computer to get online were soon to learn. Many people, before the Lockdown would say they didnt have time to ‘Play on Silly Computers’. But were soon realising that the ‘Silly Computers’ that theyd previously dismissed weren’t so silly after all. In fact, they’re actually quite useful. Suddenly, people were discovering a whole load of magic that theyd never even dreamed of before, even though it had been there for over 20 years.
Unfortunately for many in the aftermath of the Pandemic, faced financial ruin. Businesses had collapsed, Jobs lost and many people wondering ‘What am I gonna do now?’ A lot of people started to look online to find a solution to their redundancy and uncover a new source of Income. Many of these people found hidden talents they never knew they possessed up until then and were able to leverage these talents to replace their income with Online earnings.
There’s a Lotta Money around
So with all that going on, you can just imagine how much money there is flying around there in the Cybersphere. Where there is money moving, there are opportunities. The opportunity that is out there right now is probably bigger than anything ever before. All it takes is an understanding of how some of this money is flowing in order to participate and benefit from the situation.
One does not need to know or understand how all the money in the world is moving but as long as they can know and understand enough as they need to for their particular field and channel, then they can make the times work for them and benefit from this awesome revolution tat we are right in the middle of.
Where Do I Fit in?
